If you can't name any weird or messed up members of your family, then you're probably the weird or messed up one.

Well, I guess I'd be the weird one in my family. I stayed at home until 30. For most of my 20's, I did odd jobs. I'm just living on my own at 31. I haven't dated since 20 years old. I have ZERO friends so stay to myself. I haven't lived much or experienced things most my age have. I suffered from extreme anxiety and depression, so there might be a reason why your cousin is the way she is.

I'll add this... please, reach out to her and help instead of judging. Not to say you're judging, but... sometimes you never know what a person is dealing with and you might be the person to make a huge difference in her life. I would have loved to have someone reach out to help me start living and doing all the things I have only dreamed of...

I have quite a few. For example, my cousin(my dad's first cousin) lived with her parents until they both died(when she was 40), she never worked and she blew all their money on stupid things like animals. She also met some guy on the internet and she let him move in even though they had never met face to face until then. She is now in a homeless shelter somewhere.

Another one is my aunts ex-husband(so not blood related), looked at porn and wanted to meet the women. Pretty gross as they were in their 20s and he was in his 50s.

How about you?

I have some really nice "normal" family members, for the most part, but my brother and my nephew have never married. They are both nice guys, my brother has had a few girlfriends, but not my nephew.
My brother is content to be alone with his hobbies (music) and my nephew, who is really brilliant, has diagnosed himself with Asperger's. They both own houses, and have good jobs.
My sister, my sister's daughters, and my children and I have all had good marriages, so we can't figure out why the males in the family turned out this way.

I have a lot of screwy relatives, too many to list. There's a certain part of my family who, despite their background and roots, try to act uppity and better than everyone they know. One of their parents is nuttier than a Costco sized bag of mixed nuts (she comes with an actual mental health diagnosis too, one of which she doesn't even attempt to manage) and has looked the other way her entire marriage while her husband was really quite perverted with other women. Or tried to be, he didn't have many takers. If any.

Once while drunk at a family event he even hit on my mom....my mom and this pervert are blood related. My mom has since said no amount of showers would ever make her feel clean again after that event.

My 60yo SIL is a self centered over the hill princess who still lives in her glory days as a HS cheerleader. She has a ton of emotional problems but of course, she thinks she's fine. Her grown kids barely spend time with her, her husband of 30 years walked out on her and never looked back, the men she has managed to date since don't call her again after only 1-2 dates. One even had the decency to try and be honest with her, she asked him for his opinion on how she was and why he didn't want to be serious with her (after only 2 dates!), but I've heard he got the wrath for his honesty afterwards. One of her own kids called her a "stage 5 clinger" after all that happened. My husband, her brother, never wants to spend time with her....she's just much too much and incredibly moody on top of it. She's also been known to tell pretty big lies when it suits her and/or to avoid blame.

I avoid her like the plague. She's lied about me a couple times and since then I just stay away. Don't trust her.

*I have a cousin who, back in the late 1970s- early 1980s, ran away from home (in WI) and traveled to CA to meet Shaun Cassidy. She ended up becoming a "priestess" in a cult for awhile.

*I have an uncle who hates just about everyone in my family. The last time I saw him, he sidled up behind me and dug his elbow into my ribcage. When I told him off, he opened his jacket to show me the gun inside and warned me to "watch myself." He also tried to run my parents off the road once. He backhanded me across the head so hard that I passed out... right in front of my grandparents. He's a bit of a bully, to say the least.

*My husband's aunt was known as the Purple Lady because she wore purple everything- from the ribbon in her hair to the shoes on her feet. Purple lipstick, eyeshadow, car, home decor... everything.

*My aunt was a hostess in a fancy hotel for years. Everywhere we went, men seemed to know her and want to buy her drinks and dinner. Or they'd ask her on dates. She was the "Friendly Hostess with the Mostest." Probably means she was an escort, but what do I know? She had bright red hair and would draw a "beauty mark" on her face... sometimes on the right side, other times on the left.

*My grandma's sister was a nail biter. She barely had any fingernails at all. Except for on Friday nights when it was time to go out for dinner. Then she would have bright red, long, fancy fingernails. I used to think she was magic when I was a kid. I couldn't figure out how her nails grew into talons overnight.

Oh geez, where to start. My parents didn't have us interact with much of our extended family on either side, and it's pretty clear why....

Mom's side: Her brother has some mental problems, probably bipolar. Their mom didn't believe in doctors and was a "pray for the cure" type of person, so he was never treated. I never met him, but when I was in high school he started randomly calling our house saying he was going to kill himself or was being attacked by aliens and some other crazy ****. He was in and out of jail a lot, but he is supposedly doing better these days.

She had a cousin that never dated or married and lived with my great aunt his entire life until she died. He was always quiet, but fun and likeable. Well, when she died he married some random woman about six months later, took my aunt's house, cabin and other assets then cut everyone out of his life. That was about 12 years ago and no one has really heard from him since.

Dad's side: His brother got divorced after a 20+ year marriage (about 15 years ago). A few years ago, he, in his 60s, married a 30 something who is one year younger than his oldest kid . Now at the age of 67 or 68, he is about to have a baby . The baby will be 6 years younger than his oldest grandkid!

His sister married this very nerdy, controlling guy. He moved her way out in the country and isolated her from the world only allowing her to go work and church, so of course she is now a religious nut-job who likes to send my dad letters with Bibles and pamphlets telling him that we are heathens headed to hell. Now her husband is a fall down drunk alcoholic who refuses to work. He blacks out on the regular and she is basically waiting for him to die so she can move back to her home state.

There are others, but those are the most interesting......

Why would you let your SIL and MIL move in with you?
