What does it mean if a female tells you to hush after asking her how old she is? A female worker at the job I started a conversation with told me to hush with her index finger touching her lips after I asked her how old she is. I thought she was joking or something. I asked her again and she did the same thing. Now when I see her I don't even look at her. I don't talk to her. I don't even respond to her if she says hi. I been doing this for a year now.

It means it is rude to ask someone their age, especially at work. She was probably innocently flirting.

This happened a year ago and you are just asking now?

You asked an inappropriate question, and now you're behaving immaturely. You've been hanging on to it for a year? Grow up and let it go.

It's a poor social etiquette! You don't ask people, and especially women their age, their weight, how much they make, or other personal questions. It is inappropriate and impertinent, unless you have a clear purpose beyond idle curiosity or speculation.
If you're dating or spending significant time with someone, you'll eventually find out. If not, there's no need to know.

I heard that was why the Chinese invented their 12 year cycle of astrological signs, based on year of birth. You could ask someone's sign and then pretty easily determine how old they were. For example, if you asked their sign and they say "Rabbit" they'd have been born in any of the following years:
1951, 1963, 1975, 1987, 1999, 2011

So from that, you can guess their exact year and no embarrassment! Americans rude, Chinese subtle!

Your username is apt. You asked a rude question, ignored her refusal to tell you, and are sulking about it a year later. Quit asking nosy questions.

This shouldn't be in the Relationships forum.

I just find it adorable that she used the word 'hush' as opposed to the much less-ladylike 'shut up'. That was cute and feminine of her.

Wonder how long you're going to last on the job! You need to read a book on social etiquette and also how to interact with co-workers in an employment situation. You're headed for trouble otherwise.
