Crazy but true: After 9/11, several surviving spouses and families wound up losing everything, because those killed had little or no beneficiary policy. It was also a wake-up call, if you will, for more people to take out a policy in the event of sudden demise. The insurance companies' businesses began to boom, from more customers. Spouses, children, siblings...even parents were named as beneficiaries!
