My eye surgeon recently completed the second of two cataract surgeries in the past two years.

I saw him for another follow up visit last week, and don't feel I showed enough appreciation for my better eyesight.

Is it OK to send him a "thank you" card showing my appreciation? He's only human, and may not get thanked enough.

I would say yes. I'm sure he would appreciate it. Even people who go into the business of helping others like to be reminded that others also think what they do is important. You can never go wrong with kind words.

Yes.

You can't really go wrong by being kind as long as you don't want something in return. Letting the doctor know that you will recommend him to others will keep it business-like.

Yes, that's fine. He would also probably really appreciate you leaving some good reviews for him online.

Make it businesslike, rather than gushy, and make sure it includes his support staff:

Dr Scalpel and Staff,

I would like to thank you and the entire staff at Blinding Light Clinic for the efficient and effective course of treatment I received over the past year of 2015 for Hyperpigmented Toenail.

Thanks to your accurate diagnosis and effective treatment, I now have full use of my toenails, and am no longer afflicted with hyperpigmentation of the toenails.

Your staff were uniformly prompt, well-informed, and helpful during my course of treatment.

Special thanks to receptionist Ms Moneypenny for thoughtfully calling to remind me that I had forgotten that I had left my insurance card on her desk, and for safely returning it to me by mail as I requested.

I will be pleased to recommend yourself and Blinding Light Clinic to all of my family and acquaintances, should they be in need of a toenail specialist.

Sincerely,

Sounds like a great idea, and you are correct, they don't get thanked enough. My husband is a surgeon and occasionally gets cards and small gifts from patients. If they make it home, I try and keep them in a file.

For every nice person like you who takes the time to send a card, providers (and their offices) are dealing with 5-10 other people who are unappreciative, rude and often noncompliant in their treatment. So, yes, sending a card to remind them of the good work they do is very appropriate.

Yes, a thank you card is a wonderful gesture. And if you follow it up with a highly praising Yelp review of his practice, you'll likely become their most favorite patient ever.

Yes.

A few years ago I was on life support........one of my doctors that was not part of my treating doctors heard about it.

I got a card in the mail.

It was from Habitat for Humanity.

He had made a contribution in my honor.

I will keep this card forever.
