It seems like surprise parties are having a moment. Last month my colleague went to 2 in the same week. I've got 2 this month. This is the first time I have gone to a surprise b-day party. The boyfriends are doing a great job of keeping it a secret and selecting friends. Have you had a surprise b-day party? Would you want one?

I had one in middle school, and it was the best! I had NO idea, and it was so cool to see that all my friends had come but I had no clue it was going down.

I had one for my oldest at 14. We acted like we were having a family birthday dinner at a local restaurant but when they got there we were all hidden in the rear "party room." It's a lot of fun for kids who are too big for kid parties.

I don't like surprises lol.

But, I don't think its a new thing as I know many people throughout the years who have had them.

I had one years ago and it was ok but only ok because I figured it out prior to getting there. I do not like surprises and would absolutely hate a surprise party.

I've only been to one and that was about 5 years ago.

Personally I would not want one.

People have been throwing them for years, especially for benchmark birthdays.
Maybe you are seeing them more for that reason, OP. Your friends are hitting a certain decade.

I threw one, and I was on the receiving end of one. Both were equally fun! I LOVE surprises!

Never been to a surprise party or had one but I think it would be pretty cool if my husband organized one for my 40th birthday this year.

I've never thrown one, but I've been on the receiving end twice. I don't mind them, beyond the fact that I ended up looking very under dressed in the pictures compared to the guests.

I am. I'm turning 40 in two weeks. My wife harassed me for two months about "What do I want to do? Where do I want to go?" I didn't care, don't care, it's just another birthday, etc. . . Finally she said, "Why don't I plan one for you?" I said, "OK." She's taking me out of town for three days, to where I have no clue. I'm looking forward to it. She's wonderful for putting so much effort into my birthday.
