To welcome neighbors I have, on different occasions, taken over homemade cookies, homemade pumpkin pie (because it was days away from thanksgiving), homemade banana bread, and sometimes a bottle of wine. It's a very nice gesture and a great way to say "welcome to our neighborhood." It also gets things off on the right foot.
We had a lot of practice doing this as we were only the second family to move on to our street in a new neighborhood.
Love it! I do love to bake and I absolutely agree--it gets things off on the right foot. The majority of my block is older people (70's+). There are some young families around our age (late 40's- early 50's) but a lot of them keep to themselves. I'm very lucky to have several families to my immediate left and right that were very warm and welcoming. Seems like the nice thing to do
Friends of mine got a bottle of wine from one of our local vineyards. It was a nice gesture but neither of them drink wine. They passed the bottle on to her sister who drinks wine.

Yes, that's what I've been thinking...not sure if they drink alcohol. I was thinking sparkling cider and some sweet treats
Any of the ideas with something sweet homemade or even a plant would be nice.
I know what I would appreciate especially if I was in a new neighborhood would be a list of places your like/recommend. Restaurants, contractors, stores, delivery etc.
Just making an effort to introduce yourself should be appreciated.
Yes, I think anything would be appreciated
A relative of theirs lives a few blocks away and the neighbor moving has a list of "guys" lol...he gave us that list too
Seriously though it is very hard to buy something for strangers. People are a PITA, lol. You will never make everyone happy at any one time.
It's the thought that counts.
I agree. My neighbor brought over a bottle of champagne. I don't think they thought about if we would like it...it was the gesture that counted...but we did enjoy that champagne
