How about just knocking on the door, introducing yourself, welcome to the neighborhood, if you need anything just let us know. Some people over-think simple things.

Sadly, these same wonderful people are now moving and a new family is moving in this week. I would like to welcome them, as my neighbors did for me. My question is this: would you give a bottle of champagne or maybe a bottle of wine? I obviously have no idea if they would like that but I guess it's the gesture, right? Just like I appreciated the gesture from my neighbor.

Would a sparkling cider be good too? Those are pretty inexpensive though so maybe that and a small fruit basket?

Has anyone ever done this? If so, what did you welcome your new neighbors with? Or conversely, did neighbors welcome you and if so, what did they bring?

Looking forward to hearing ideas and stories
I would chose something like the sparkling cider, or a fruit basket, or some baked goods, if you're into baking. I wouldn't assume that strangers are into alcohol. You never know. If there's some kind of directory of local businesses in your neighborhood, you could give them a copy.

Yes, that's why I kinda want to avoid alcohol. Thanks Ruth!

We stayed in an Vacation House/Inn where they had a fresh baked orange cake, cup cakes for kids and some cookies and some chocolates all in a basket. You can arrange these easily at home.

Well, these days, you never know if anything's safe; cider and baked goods might not work if one of them is diabetic, or requires gluten-free or wheat-free goods, or something. But you can't foresee everything, and at some point, you do just have to say to yourself, "It's the thought that counts."

That's why I was thinking of including something useful, like a local directory, perhaps a map or listing of local amenities (parks programs, public gym/pool, other resources), and that sort of thing.

Yes, at some point, it is the thought that counts. We don't eat sweets but get our sugar from alcohol, so we're all different. I've had to give away or toss cookies, etc. A directory is a great idea. But it's the thought behind any gift. At least with alcohol, no one labored to make it, and it can be saved for future re-gifting.

Oh, I know lol I'm starting to lean towards maybe a nice little fruit basket and as you and others suggested, a listing of local amenities. They may be familiar with the area, as a relative of theirs lives nearby. Just thought a little extra something would be nice too

If you like them, cookies.
If you don't like them, sacrifice a goat in your backyard.
They'll move.

I'm going to skip the alcohol...never know if they're just not drinkers or any other reasons if they don't consume alcohol
