I know a few people whom have gone homeless. I'm TERRIFIED of it happening to me. How do regular people who don' make lots of money not get afraid of this?

Talk to people, like everywhere you go, to everyone you come into contact with from the clerk at the gas station, etc... Hang your pride up for awhile
People know people who help people. They.re out there but you have to dig. Go to church, laundromats, everywhere and put up a sign "Need a room to rent".
Network: force yourself to, if you want to avoid the shelters. And take any job you can get. Offer some cash or cleaning service to the homeowner until you get up again.
There ARE good people in this world! I testify to that.

Fear of being homeless is a WONDERFUL motivator to make more money to attain a level of financial stability.

So, focus on removing that fear by making more money (and not spending it!).

Save as much money as you can, don’t do drugs, show up every day for work. If you find yourself unemployed then work everyday at finding work. Don’t get involved with people with bad work habits or bad values. Don’t fall in love with anyone who needs you to rescue her/him. Use condoms and only make babies when you truly can afford them and are in a committed relationship with a good person. Always carry health insurance, car insurance and insurance on your home or rental insurance. Eat healthy, keep your vaccinations current and get exercise; don’t let yourself get out of shape. Wash your hands regularly.

That’s how you avoid homelessness.

They don't.

I've been there, and it's not a good place to be.

If you are about to go homeless, I would max out any credit cards for hard necessities, and not pay any bills whatsoever. let the creditors settle with you. Make a plan on how you can survive, as in hygiene, clothes and belongings storage, how you will get out of the situation. If you dont live in a city with good services, find a way to get to a city that does. ask for as much help as you can get now, like SSI, and emergency funds. get int o public housing as well.

you need to really evaluate what led you into this situation, and get real help to get out of it.

SSI requires that you be age 65, disabled, or blind.

My sister and I have been homeless at various times in our life strictly due to illness, hers mental ,mine physical . To get off the streets was not easy nor pretty . We aren't not now and haven't been homeless for a good long time but that fear never leaves us .
