I too am curious if this refusal to associate with such people extends to anyone who has ever peed behind a tree or had a slightly younger girlfriend as teen, or just those who were charged for such "crimes".
Yes, that’s what I meant. I meant that it wouldn’t matter to her what he was on the list for even if it was peeing she wouldn’t have anything to do with them. Sorry, I phrase that wrong.

A cop, in uniform. He was fired. The detectives running the operation were disgusted.
The TV Show To Catch a Predator, it featured all different kinds of men who got caught in the sting operation. Some of them were professional types, but others were the stereotypical guy who lives in his parents basement. In fact, quite a few were. There was one doctor, one pastor, a district attorney and a few teachers.

That was almost a good 15 years ago too. The state has that has being his last (and only) offense.

I feel a little better now, as that situation makes more "sense". Still it's not a good thing, but it takes away from me thinking he was a possible child molester or something of that nature.
Wow...this is so much bs. His life could be ruined because of this and People like him. He was 18, and she 17. They are the same age!! I bet it was her parents. Shame.

Sounds like typical high school sweethearts. Sad. Many students can easily be up to a year apart or more and be in the same grade. And not every student that graduates is 18. Many are 17 as well.

Many of the parents were upset that someone like that could live that close to a school. Rumors spread, bad news got out, and people got upset. It was the talk of the parents as they dropped off the kids.

The real story came out. A teenager had been dating a girl in High School. Her parents did not like him. He turned 18 and the parents went to the police. The girl was a couple years younger than him. That was some years back. I think in California they changed or were trying to change the law. When a kid hits 18 and is dating someone within a few years of their age the courts are more relaxed on that kind of thing. Not sure if that ever got changed or not.

Some years back, I was looking through the pics of registered sex offenders in our area and there popped up the face of a new friend of ours that was coming over for dinner the next night. We had small kids at the time and I knew he had small kids too. I asked my husband to please find out what it was about. It turns out it was just like the above situation. He was very close in age to his girlfriend in high school and her parents did not like him at all. The second he turned 18 the parents called the police and he's now forever on the registry.

He's a great family man years later and I am sure is really tired of explaining why he is on that dreaded list.

My now ex-friend made a joke saying child porn. I was like wtf. His comment disgusted me and refuse to see him because of it. This is a guy also claiming to be a Christian. He’s not on the list but it made me wonder what he’s looking at on his computer . He lost my friendship
I bet you 99% of human men have urinated outside so you must not associate with any of them. How terrible and maybe every single one of them should be on the offender list.. Its people like you who keep these stupid offender lists active when they should clearly be for the people harming kids under 16

That whole thing caught an awful lot of undeserved heat after a DA in a small Texas town tried to meet up with what he thought was a 13 year old male. He committed suicide when the cops went to his place with a warrant.

Sheeze. Not to mention all the girls who had to pee outside. Innumerable times.

This is so awful for these guys!

Yes I have done that in the remote past too. One time my then-bf had to do “number 2” outside, after a dinner that didn’t agree with him. We were driving home from that restaurant at 80 mph LOL but he couldn’t make it and had to pull over and run into the woods. Now it means he’s a sexual offender...

When I moved into my neighborhood, one of the neighbors told me the guy next door was a RSO. Sure enough, they were right. He was a really nice guy. Always friendly, kind, and helpful. So one day I just asked him about it. He told me his story from 40 years earlier. He was 22 and had just been discharged from the military. He was traveling home cross country and he stopped for the night in Wyoming. He went to a bar and met a woman there who was drinking. Being served alcohol by the bartender. Well they started talking, one thing led to another and they ended up having sex. The next morning he was arrested for statutory rape. She was underage. Open and shut case, he was guilty. It did not mean a thing that she had had sex with many others or that she was in a bar illegally. He served his time and would be a RSO for life.

It was a scam. The young woman's parents were pimping her out for money and the bartender had to be in on it. They offered to drop the charges and say it was all a mistake for 5K. a fortune back then. He didn't have the money to pay their extortion. And it was his word against theirs. Local family known in the community VS a young traveler passing through town. He couldn't prove anything. But he did learn she had accused at least one other person of statutory rape besides him.

That one night in Wyoming ruined his life. He was never able to get a decent job and was forced to ruin his body doing heavy construction work. His record for the rest of his life was clean other than a few traffic tickets. His real crime was poverty and lack of education. If he or his family had had those things he could easily have had his record expunged after a few years of clean living. But he was made poor by his 'crime' and society would never allow that debt to be really paid.

He taught me a lesson. Things are not always what you think they are. Too many times, the real crime is poverty.
