Why not? Everybody else around here does.

It's just that your ilk freaks out when it's done to demographics which you aim to protect.

Per post #1.

We're talking about 2 guys. No 'shes'.

Stores may have protective policies about certain kinds of high-end tennis shoes, as much as the people who are buying them.

There’s not much call on the resale market for granny pumps... But I am constantly amazed at the price on some of these Nikes.

Anyone would be offended if a store acted like they were going to steal.

As I said earlier, people don't run out of stores with a box of shoes anymore, there are cameras everywhere.

Well...people DO run out of stores with stolen merchandise. Probably happens every day, somewhere.

Here in the St. Louis area recently, a shoplifter hit a Menards employee with her car, trying to get away.

People still steal, regardless of cameras. It is impractical to take the box, though I'm sure there are some that would try. Normally what they do is put the shoes on and try to walk out with it. Some will stuff in their jackets or pants. Some will even have wire cutters on hand to take the alarm tags off. Thieves will always try to figure out a way.

We're talking about theft here. Profiling works. Law enforcement profiles. 90% of violent crime is committed by males. Not 75 yr old women.

Exactly. You can get hurt or worse walking into the wrong neighborhood. People that ignore violent crime rates and where they happen often learn the hard way. Violent crimes rates vary greatly from race to race. Don’t care if pointing that out is “racist”. That term is so watered down and overused it no longer has much pull.

IF OP's friend was treated like anyone else would've been, than fair enough. Sounds like some stores DO have a policy of "one shoe". If the policy is applied across the board, than no problem.

Sounds like, though, unless OP and his buddy go back and observe, we'll never know for sure.
