I am an EFL/ESL teacher with 12 years experience with K-12 learners abroad in South Korea looking to relocate to North Carolina. I am not certified, but have a Masters degree in TESOL. Does anyone know how difficult it will be to find a K-12 teaching position, either outright or through lateral entry, and any areas of particular need for ESL teachers?

Is lateral entry hiring taking place at all in the current economic climate?
Others have told me that I'd better prepare to sub and hope for longterm or get my foot in the door for a longer term position. Any advice or inside knowledge would be greatly appreciated.

Look at each county's web site for vacancies.

Also some teacher sites like--

Teaching Jobs US, Education Jobs, Special Education Teacher Jobs

and

https://schooljobs.dpi.state.nc.us/hrms/HRMSHome.Nsf/VacantPosition?openform (broken link)

There are a FEW counties in my area holding job fairs, but just as many have been cancelled.

Send resume`s to the counties you would like to be in and make a few calls..

As for lateral entry, it has happened in my county, but not like it had a few years ago.
