I hope to be relocating to Caldwell County - specifically Granite Falls - we already have our lot and hope to start building sometime next spring. Can someone tell me if the housing market is strengthening or weakening - are people relocating to this area in which alot of new construction is occurring?
Have you noticed in the past year if housing prices have increased or decreased. In Maryland, much like other parts of the country - our market here has had somewhat of a correction. Homes are now selling for about $30 - $40,000 less than they were last year.

I'm not sure about this area myself, but I work for the largest relocation network in the U.S. and if you would like, I will find an agent who is knowledgable in that area and have him/her contact you.

That would be great! We should be meeting with our builder in the Spring '08 - after selling our house we would then contact the agent to find a rental in Caldwell County while the house was being built. Although no one knows what the real estate markets will be next year - hopefully they can shed some light on the activity in that area.

This area should be really interesting in the coming year. Right now the economy is in the tank. Unemployment is high and when all of the retraining programs expire I don't know what many of the out of work furniture workers will do.
On the upside Google is building a large facility here and everyone hopes that it will do for this area what it did in Oregon. There are two new Walmart Supercenters being built in Caldwell County within ten miles of one another so they must be confident that things will rebound.
I may be an optimist but I think that the secret about the weather in this area is going to get out and when this housing bubble levels off this area could become a boom town. Good luck.

What type of work do most of the local do? Do you notice alot of new construction or have things remained the same in say the last two years? Where do you live in Caldwell County?

I am researching custom home builders in the area. We had intended on using the Bollinger Corp. but he no longer is in the building business; only focusing on real estate. Who are the notable builders in your area? Scott Curtis used to build years back but my understanding is that he now builds commercial - in the Lake Norman area.
