I am a 27yo woman moving to Fayetteville, NC from Brooklyn, NY. It will be me, my fiance, and my 10yo daughter making this big move in October. My fiance actually lived there before so he is pretty familiar with the areas but I wanted to do my own research. AAAAAAAAAny information about the area would be helpful. I would like to rent a single family house, but I have also looked at many apartment complexes(via catalogues) that were beautiful. Pros/cons of the area? I also am transferring my section 8 subsidy to Fayetteville, even though its a necessity here in NYC I doubt I would need it after a few months in NC. I am very excited and heard many wonderful things about the city. I really just want peace, quiet, trees and grass, and a nice place for my daughter to grow up. What are the best worst neighborhoods? How are the schools? recreation? Outdoors/parks/nearest pools/beaches?
Hi! I'm a BK-to-NC transplant myself. I no longer live there, but my hubby was raised there so I may be able to help you with some of your questions.
What apartment complexes are you looking into? Some of them can be VERY deceiving.
Fayetteville has a reputation of being crime-ridden, but personally I never felt scared. Perhaps I stayed away from the bad areas.
Renting a house shouldn't be that hard, Faye is definitely expanding. Everytime I go back I am surprised to see all of the new construction and new stores. You should probably rent one of the newer apartment complexes first then look into the housing situation. Cliffdale Rd, Morganton Rd has lots of new apartments, they are practically built on top of each other.
You've got a 10 yr old, so I'm guessing she's going into 5th grade, so elementary school, while important, is probably not as important as middle/high school.
If it were me, I'd search by high school and would choose the following (they all seem to have good middle schools feeding into them, at least these do): Jack Britt, Southview, Cape Fear, Gray's creek, Terry Sanford and maybe Pine Forest and Seventy-first if I didn't find what I wanted in the others. (hold the ctrl key down when choosing more than one option). Good luck
