Lets get a better perspective on the many different towns here in NC. Post up the towns you feel are desireable and those you feel aren't.

Please no rants. The purpose of this thread is to be informative and helpful for those that may have wondered about different towns. So please discuss the topic of the good and bad with keeping it civil. Thanks.

The following is my opinion only, so please no one be offended by it. Thanks.

The best:

Southport
Greensboro (& surrounding towns)
Asheville
Boone
Raleigh
Charlotte
Wilmington
Winston-Salem (& surrounding towns)
Mt. Airy
Salisbury
Manteo
Outer Banks towns
As well as many small towns that would make this list too long.

The worst:

Fayetteville
Kinston
Goldsboro
High Point (though there are a few good areas)

Remember, this was just my opinion based on what I like and don't like.

Don't worry Niki no one will be offended.

The whole point of this thread is so we can all explain our likes and dislikes of of a town, and why, without everyone jumping all over eachother. Everyone is different and so are their opinions. It's cool.

But simply stating a town sucks, or there are mean people there doesn't promote a healthy discussion or help anyone wondering about areas and what they might find appealing to it, or not.

Thanks for sharing Niki.

With my "best" list, I tried to keep in mind cities and towns that, even though I wouldn't want to live there, seem to be fine overall and would probably appeal to many.

Dislike: Fayetteville

High Crime
Cops do nothing, they don't respond unless it's a homicide/potential homicide - not kidding either.
Traffic is bad
Road Rage is high
Too hot - said to be hottest town in NC
No good attractions
Not much to do besides strip clubs/bars, pawn shops and Wal Mart.
Their water sports park is in a lake of nasty water - not kidding here either.
Overpopulated
People are more often than not disrespectful and discourteous
No good jobs available - two of my friends had to move 2 hrs. away to get jobs
Too many loan sharks trying to rip you off, thinking you're Army
If you want to buy a car, the dealers all have their inventory marked up drastically, so you have to travel to pay resonably for a car
Not many natives - most in town are Army or former/retired Army - most Army are transplants

We go down to golf in NC and enjoy it, except in the middle of the summer. We took golf lessons last year in July!! No wonder it was a bargain!! We melted. I have never been so hot.
But we have been to New Bern several times and love the charm of the little town. The bridges over the bay are amazing. Great little restaurants and shops downtown. Wonderful history in the area.
Washington has a nice area by the river now
And Edenton has wonderful history and beautiful old homes.
