Hi all,
I was wondering about getting some input on a handful of cities in NC. I am relocating to go to school and seriously considering NC. These are the cities that programs are available:
Asheville
Hudson
Wilmington
Winston-Salem
Smithfield
Greenvile
Monroe
I am not familiar with many of them in particular, but just love the NC are in general. Please keep in mind I am 24 years old with a 29 year old boyfriend and a small dog in tow. I would like to live somewhat close to the water (lake/ocean, whichever). I'd like somewhere that would offer a lot of variety in entertainment/activities as we are coming from somewhere pretty far removed and are so ready for that change. Concerned as well with somewhere I will feel safe and comfortable. Also want to add that an affordable cost of living/rent would be an important factor. I am not sure which would be the best fit.
What specifically about "the NC area in general" do you like, because those places are quite different.
Bear in mind the you'd need to live in NC for at least a year to establish residency, or pay out-of-state tuition. I presume you have looked at a map and know that Wilmington is the only one of those places actually at the beach, though Greenville is not far.
What is the program you're looking at? You probably want to consider other factors in the schools as well. Wilmington, Greenville, and Asheville would be UNC system schools; I am guessing the others would be community colleges? That's a big choice right there--whether you want a 4-yr or two-year program? Maybe if you can give more detail as to what you're looking for, it would be easier for people to rate the various places on your criteria.

Wilmington is the closest to the ocean, GreenvilLe is second closest. But like the other poster said, what major are you looking for? Community college? Four-year? Science major, business?
