I'm not aware of any Old Order Amish settlements in NC. However, there are a number of Mennonite homesteads scattered throughtout the state.

There is a settlement in Caswell County, or Yanceyville, NC. I am sure there are more, but that is the one I know of. U can look online and find websites for some of their stores; or even stories of their settlement here. About Yoder's Country Market Amish store in Blanch (Caswell County) NC This is just one of the stores in the area. Also, there info on www.caswellnc.com about the Amish settlement.

Primarily in Caswell county although I think there are more Mennonites there than Amish.

Hey, sillygal :-)

Yoder sold that store and moved a few years ago. The store is still there though and being run just like it was by someone who moved there from out of state. Yoder trained him. Great little store! The new owner is not Amish and I don't think he's Mennonite either. A lot of the Mennonites have moved out of that area. I don't know how many Amish are still there.

There's a Yoder's outside of Grifton (south of Greenville). I enjoy dropping in now and then. The folks that run it are very interesting and friendly. They have a great little restaraunt nextdoor too! Hwy 118 east from Grifton. Sort of out in the middle of nowhere.

There's an Amish Country Store on Old Fort Road in Fairview, NC which is SE of Asheville. It just opened, so I don't know if it's the real deal or just another Amish poser.

The store carries bulk food, homemade baked goods, meat, cheese, canned food, furniture and other items. It will also sell crafts made by Amish friends and local artists. The store is 1.5 miles east of the intersection of Charlotte Highway and is open from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. weekdays and 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturdays.

OMG Grifton. I hadn't thought of Grifton in years. I used to canoe around there. Often down to little Washington. Didn't know about the Yoder's thing. Interesting.

It probably hasn't changed too terribly much! LOL! The Neuse is great canoe country down that way. Funny story...as you probably know the peninsula of land that is formed at the joining of the Neuse and Contentnea creek is known as Tick Bite. My buddy at work when I was employed at the DuPont plant near there got married and rented a place in Tick Bite....his wife burst into tears when he turned off the highway headed to Tick Bite! LOL!

Know it well. I knew a guy that was postmaster in a little town down near Mt Olive who lived there. Funny thing is that his daughter lived up here. Was married to a film maker of some kind.
If you worked at the Dupont plant between Greenville and Kinston, I bet we have some common acquaintances.
I have one also. My buddy who lived near Grifton, bought a trailer out in the woods near the creek. Bought the place in January. Well, when spring hit, he realized why he got such a good deal. Biting flies everywhere. Just going to get the mail was an Olympic event!
