While reading these forums I get a sense there are alot of transplanted NY'ers. Are everyone spread throughout the state or can anyone tell me where most NY'ers reside. Just a little curious and it might help a few of us in deciding where to go. Also, has it been everything you have expected or did you make a mistake? Thanks for all the input.

I was living in NJ and working in NYC. Imoved to Raleigh a year ago.

Yes, I did make a mistake, and now am moving back (and can't wait to get there!). NC is nice, but its not for everyone. For me personally, it did not live up to the hype.

The two biggest concentrations are in Raliegh Durham area for the IT type jobs and Charlotte area for the financial type jobs.

Actually you will also find other states transplanting more to these two locations. Most popular states I see moving here are New York, New Jersey, Florida, Southern California, Michican, and Ohio, Pennslyvania, and Conneticut. Floridians tend to follow the trend they usually have with large concentration in Asheville area. Northern Coastal residents tend to be attracted to Wilmington. IMO

Click on the NC county of interest to see where the new residents came from last. Based on 2000-20005 U.S. IRS data.

Moving from county to county

I have noticed here in Raleigh and Cary a big drop in NY and Nj plates driving around the big influx now is VA Transplants followed by FL and then PA. But over the last couple months Virginia has flooded the area.

We relocated from NY to the Charlotte area in 1998 -- my husband is in banking, which was the main reason for choosing Charlotte. No plans to go back to NY (knock on wood really hard!)

My son moved to Cary, North Carolina last year from Long Island , NY.
We heard from the locals down there that CARY stands for "Containment Area For Relocated Yankees".
He loves it there so far.
My wife and I and 2 other children are looking into relocating to Charlotte and from what I see it's mostly New Yorkers who are the ones buying all the big new homes in the subdivisions!

I miss the definite four seasons of Upstate, NY. (Oswego) We make to much money with our jobs now to return. Where we live is really nice, (Statesville, NC) and we have everything we need. Maybe it is just homesickness, I don't know. It is a beautiful Southern city and we haven't had any problems. I guess maybe the weather seems so "the same". Heat and humidity, and you have to pray to get rain. But if weather isn't an issue for you, then you wouldn't have any problems living here.

Statesville will grow on you. 'Been here almost 30 years from NEPA! I wonder if the op wants to know where all the NYers are to avoid them lol
