What is acceptable for having a Banner on the front of your vehicle? On my Explorer I have a logo on the front windshield in Nj it can be a certain length to pass.....But what is the acceptable length in CLT to pass the vehicle?

It's my understanding that top windshield banners are treated as tinting by the DMV.

Window tint shall fail N.C. safety inspection if:

(a) Any window on the vehicle with after-factory tint has a light
transmittance of less than thirty-two percent (32%).

(b) The tint on any window is red, yellow or amber.

(c) The tint on the windshield extends more than five (5) inches below
the top of the windshield or is below the AS1 line of the windshield,
whichever is longer.

(d) All material used to tint a window(s)shall be non reflective and shall
not be red, yellow or amber. After market tinting above the AS1 line
must comply with G.S. 20-127(a)

I'm worried about all of this tinting business as well. Is there anyway to figure out how much light transmittance your tint allows? I live in TN where there are no laws regulating tint.

I also have the windshield banner which although I don't think extends past 5 inches, it is pretty dark. I just bought my car about a month ago, I would hate to have to take all the tint off I think there may be a chance that it's factory installed (it's a 2004 Mazda 6)...I guess I need to figure this out soon.

You should be able to have it tested with a photometer at an inspection station like Jiffy Lube once you're in the state. No restrictions on factory tint that I know of.
