I don't subscribe to the theory that you have to root for your hometown team. If I rooted for my hometown team for football, I would have probably killed myself out of depression. The closest thing I've got to 'hometown" teams, is the Giants and Mets, and they are on the other side of the state. I've been to 2 Panthers games, and 1 Bobcats game this past season, and unless they are playing a team I really like, I have no problem rooting them on to victory, but I would never feel an obligation to do so due to their proximity.
What's the current status on getting MLB into Charlotte? I saw on the news that the Charlotte Knights want to come to Uptown but there's a lawyer blocking the move because he says Charlotte needs Major League Baseball uptown instead.

Not much is going on at the moment. The city is too broke to build an uptown stadium for the Knights and MLB isn't talking about expansion at the moment. I suspect though that MLB (as well as quite a few other businesses) will take a closer look at the Charlotte market after next year's convention.
Alot of North Carolinians aren't huge Panther fans, it being a realtively new team. Alot of oldtimers seem to either be Falcons or Redskins fans depending on what part of NC they are from.
Hockey - Rangers
Football - Dallas
Baseball - Mets
Hoops (not that I watch it much) - Miami
