Gov. Perdue is probably the worst governor NC has had in many years. She hasn't done anything to improve this state, period. She just sit up in Raleigh and gives everyone "lip service."
NC's unemployment has already moved up to 9.9% and it will probably get a lot higher before 2012. NC is turning into the next Florida and Michigan.
The State Senate and Legislators need to go. They are destroying the framework that has made NC the one of the biggest state success stories of the last half century.
She will ride straight-party voting out of office, just like she rode it in. No worries here. How many jobs can she buy for the state and still the unemployment rate goes up and up?
In the states with better numbers than NC... what else is going on?

If one looks at the list carefully, it is obvious that size (ie population) is a factor. Of the top 10 most populated states (which NC is one of those states) we rank pretty much in the bottom-middle of the pack. Being that we are still a high growth state, this just complicates things even more. In truth, the current unemployment ranking of NC is out of Bev. Perdue's control. She is just a politician.
What I find interesting though is that 2 out of 3 major metros in this state (Charlotte and the Triad) are sittting on unemployment rates that are higher than the Triangle. Metro Charlotte plus the Triad combine for nearly 4 million people. It's clear what this state must do. We must focus on getting the Triad and Charlotte back to work.
That was NOT our focus in the last 30 years. As a result, the Triangle leaped from a distant 3rd in metro size to 2nd largest NC metro (and now brags about one day becoming the largest). This focus on making the Triangle a job growth center for the state came back to bite this state in the (you know where). This is what happens when a state focuses on growing its 3rd largest metro while letting the #1 and #2 fend for themselves.
Perdue IMO is righting this 30 year wrong...
Much of it is political because Charlotte did vote for her over the city's own mayor. However, it is clear that Perdue is VERY interested in getting Charlotte back to work. Whenever there are new jobs announced for metro Charlotte, Bev is here making the announcement herself. She has also promised to finish I-485 early while making Triangle residents pay tolls on I-540. Being that the DNC will be in Charlotte next year (Bev's best hope of getting re-elected) Bev's focus on Charlotte will only increase. Luckily for Charlotte, this city is just "too big to fail" as far as Bev and other NC politicians are concerned. Now all we need are a few political reasons to get these folks interested in the Triad and this state will fly again.

Here in Charlotte people insist on trying to equate our high unemployment rate to the large number of banking jobs in the area. When in fact, if you look at the numbers its the losses in manufacturing that have really hit this area the worst. That's particularly true of the surrounding counties where the unemployment rates are the highest. Here's a recent story that talks about how dependent the state is on manufacturing. These types of jobs aren't coming back and that's why NC will probably be challenged by unemployment for some time.

Local officials bring in jobs. It is not Bev's fault that people are moving in faster than the jobs.

Although you are certainly correct in your analysis of job loss in this state, what you don't mention is that Bev sure takes every opportunity to make it appear she is the savior when it comes to jobs that DO come here. She may not be responsible for job loss, but she sure isn't the key factor in job creation either. If she didn't insist on a big press conference every time a company decides to move to NC (or open a branch of their operations here) then she wouldn't be open to criticism on how "poorly" her administration is doing.
She can't have it both ways, wh/ seems to be what her administration and supporters want. Along with the self-congratulatory appearances comes critcism. Not saying that it is fair, but . . . when one compares the rate of job growth in years past to what has occurred during Purdue's tenure, there is no way it is gonna come out looking impressive. She would do better to just quietly work in the background and stop with the press conferences.
