New to NC. The check engine light on my 2007 goes on and off intermittently. Going on now for a few years. Car runs fine but I have a question on passing inspection come next year if the light stays on. I thought you could get 2 fails pay $200 to try to repair the problem the third time so long as nothing else but a check engine light on they would pass the car. How does this work? If the repair is expensive can they require that in order to get a passing sticker?
Let's say for argument sake it is the cat and the cost is around 1200-1500. Am I required to pay whatever it takes to get the light to stay out and pass emissions in order to get a pass sticker?
Hey, will I pass inspection if my driver's side window's power window is not working (i.e., window will not go up or down by pressing the electronic button. It just stays up all the time. The other windows work fine.)? I am going to get it fixed but am strapped for cash at the moment.
Thanks for all the help. The answer is $250 waiver yearly or fix the cat. Other than the cat problem which does not affect the performance of the vehicle the car runs great. 186000 miles I put around 2k into the vehicle the last couple of years. Might just go for the waiver one time and see if I get lucky with the wonky light next time around.

There is no requirement for windows to go up/down. You'll be fine.
