Before moving this. Where is the best ABC store in NC. Was at one yesterday (Hwy 150 in W-S) and was looking around for something different to try. I spoke with the clerk and he said it would be nice if they had an area where you could purchase sample bottles (I call them airplane bottles). I noticed that some stores have different airplane bottles. Which I understand is due to areas and what is mostly sold. So what is you local store like?

Do you really want the best on IN NC or the best in your area? How far are you really willing to drive to get booze?

First, since ABC stores are state-run, there is probably not a huge difference among them, but would you really drive from the mountains to the coast to go to a liquor store if that's where someone said "the best store in NC" was??

http://www.ncabc.com/stores/store.aspx?store=162 (broken link)

It's got polished marble floors and concierge service. Just kidding about the last part, but it is extremely posh. And such a dramatic photo with the clouds and the position of natural light too.

Not sure about the best ABC store, but the best place to buy liquor in NC is not readily available to the general public. The selection at liquor stores(or package stores, or Class 6, or whatever your preferred nomenclature) on NC's military installations is pretty epic, with the exception of Seymour Johnson AFB. Though even their selection tends to be better than the local ABC stores in Goldsboro. Plus you can but liquor on Sundays aboard the bases. They also sale beer, wine, soda, and all necessary mixers. The gift packs are pretty grand as well, especially around the holidays. I'd say Camp Lejeune has the best selection. Also it seems the Marine bases are constantly having tastings, as well. Maybe it's part of that whole being founded in a tavern, thing.

You are always going to have your standards but there is a huge variance from store to store for drinks outside Jack, Jim, Bacardi, and the like. For an example, Goldsboro has 3 ABC stores. Only one has Gosling's Black Seal, a separate store is the only one that carries the flavored varieties of Midnight Moon.

A few months back I started this thread searching for Pyrat, which I could not find in any Triangle ABC store at the time.

The ABC directors for a county, area, or store, decides what they stock.

The best place in NC to get your booze isn't in NC! I drive down 521 to Southern Spirits, for a few reasons. First, I have always resented NC's crooked, corrupt ABC state-run system. Why can't we have privately owned and operated liquor stores here? Just read the corruption stories about state-run ABC stores in NC to find out why they won't let it happen. Secondly, my booze is cheaper by a noticeable margin at Southern Spirits just down 521. Thirdly, and most importantly, I want my money going to support private business owners, in the private sector. Not yet another Gubment run institution that sucks when compared to its private sector counterparts. Sure hope this post ruffled some ABC-supporters feathers hehe!

The best one is the closest one, for they all have the same selection at the same price. Not there long enough to worry about the ambiance.
