Are there any transplants out there who found work in state government? If so, what was your process? Did you apply for jobs, interview, then move, or did you just move, then looked for jobs?

I have worked for the state of Mich. as a human services case worker, but the only work available now is tourism related and doesn't pay much of anything. Any help on this would be appreciated. I really need to leave Michigan, and will be seeking work in either North or South Carolina. (Still researching which would be best)

Question Wanting and needing to relocate

Thank You. Actually, I've been to both state web sites and know how to search for vacancies, ect, but If possible I would like to hear of other people's experiences with this. Things such as, any difficulty a northerner might have in getting hired, areas that are usually in need of workers, what it's like to work for different counties. Suggestions need not be restricted to transplants either. If any natives have some insights on this, I'd appreciate it.

By the way, I will not come to either state looking to cut down trees, or destroy habitat. I don't want to change anything either. I've been south before and like things as they are...well, except for the bugs.

I lived in DE/MD when I applied to the State of NC for employment. I was hired even though I did not live there and the job I was hired for required me to live in the county for which I was going to work. They had no problems hiring me even though I did not already reside in the State. Another co-worker of mine who was hired a few months before me was hired while she lived in Alabama. I have since moved back to MD and am looking to move back to NC and hope it won't be a problem. It shouldn't be a problem.

Hmmm. Okay, it looks like as long as I can afford to fly in and interview, there shouldn't be any other problem. I have experience in my field, so hopefully, there won't be TOO many interviews. Thanks for the reply.
