Gotta disagree with your take on Obama's chances: he barely carried NC last time, when he could run on meaningless slogans like yes we can. For the first time in his life, he has to run on a record, and his record isn't pretty. Yes, he can keep blaming it all on Bush, or the Republicans, or the Mayan calendar even, but nobody gives a crap about that. People don't want politicians who run around fixing the blame, they want leaders who will work to fix the problem.
Obama is not going to carry NC, he's not taking Virginia or Indiana and he's at 40% approval in places like Florida, Ohio, Pennsylvania and Nevada. These are all swing states, and they've all been hammered by this recession that supposedly "ended" two freakin years ago.
I think it went from McCrory pretty much guaranteed to win, when it was him vs Bev, to it being more even. I think he will have a hell of a tougher fight if Erskine gets into the game. What negative thing is there about Erskine? He ran the UNC system very well. Left to help lead a committee to give ideas to reduce the debt. He is a NAME and has come a LONG way since running again Burr. Also, Etheridge is another one.
ALSO, by now forcing there to be a primary, hopefully that crappy "same sex amendment" vote will receive more votes, because both parties will have a reason to vote.
Even though I don't care for Bev, it seems she took one for the team.
