ALLEGHANY CO. AGRICULTURAL FAIR Sparta
Fair Dates: Aug 18-25

Gotta love fair time!! Pig Races, 2 headed chickens, gem mining, hee hee. So if you could make the new fair food what would it be? I am thinking deep fried chocolate covered jalapenos on a stick,
Sunny thanks for the run down, good stuff!! I think we will only be doing the State Fair this year. I would like to venture down to the Cape Fear one sometime, I was not even aware of it, but thanks to you I am now!
I never been to Cherokee or Murphy I guess because I get my mountain needs a little closer but I am very curious what it is like or looks like in that area.
But when I put this list together I didnt know they had there own fair.
I been to the one in Greensboro and unless you just happen to be in area I would not suggest making a trip to go to it. It basically in the parking lot of the coliseum. Probably just a good place for locals to have something to do.
It been years but I like the Dixie Classic Fair in Winston but I would go to that one again.
Davidson County Agriculture Fair is good if you are into understanding Agriculture of the area. Lots of animals, and large exibit hsll and ok rides.
I never been to the State Fair and I want to go. I knew they use to do amtrak service from Charlotte area to the fairgrounds but the bytrian.org website is kind of dated so I dont know if they still offer that service.
Dont forget the worlds smallest donkey and house of mirrors so you can see what you look like over weight or anoxeric.
Then there the carnival games that you just know they are rigged but you play anyways or waste your quarters in that one that has 8 sitting on edge but you cannot get them to move.
My favorite is the ones you use a gun to shoot water to make a car or duck or something go up the wall. I feel like I have better chance on winning either that 3x5 van halen poster or that 8 foot stuff animal that now you got to tote around for 3 more hours lol.
What I hate is when you buy a certain amount of tickets for rides and by the end you dont have enough for a cool ride but enough for something lame like the house of horror roller coaster that takes you in a house with just pictures of creatures and zombies that do not move or anything that would not even scare a baby. hehe
I will have to get back with the new fair food due to I just had late lunch and my brain an stomach are not in creative mode.
lol! Yes! Win that goldfish the ring toss around bottle game, and the old whack a mole! ha! And looking forward to seeing what will this years stuffed animal to win will be, purple wombats? hee hee.
Oh I forgot about the smallest donkey,
This has to be my favorite time to be at the state fair; when the sun is setting and you can see miles of sky with the fair lights and ride lights.
Unless of course it rains, I didn't say that,
Try to get to the state fair sometime, I don't think you will be disappointed.
The Rowan county fair (http://www.rowanalliance.com/calendarnew/calendar_v1.asp - broken link) is Sept 18-23rd at the fairgrounds off Julian Rd (I-85, exit 74)
thanks for all that info on the fairs, you had sent me a post about where to look prior,That is what i was hoping for to hear what people have to say abvout their experiences, which one they like the best is it the rides, the food ect.which fair is considered the best of the best the least.I will be looking forward to seeing them on your post/thread as before I'am new to all of this so thanks for bearing with me on my post/threads tahnks a million,I have went to alot of sites, they don't really give you others insights from the areas. once again thanks canda
I always wanted to take the train to the fair!!! Seems like that would be the way to go.
Take the Train to the State Fair (http://www.bytrain.org/2008statefair.html - broken link)
Book now those seats sell out fast. Every October I try to get tickets and they are sold out for that event. But yeah I would love the convience and pleasure riding the train.
You would think they would add additional cars to the train in October with the special trips they do to Lexington for the BBQ Festival and the State Fair
Hey Amtrak if you are reading this...............pssst
I highly recommend the Dixie Classic Fair in Winston-Salem. The rides and midway are second only to the state fair. The agricultural, horticultural and homemaking competitions and exhibits are really good. The Yesterday Village has interesting historical exhibits and demonstrations.
