My fiance and I are looking for a nice area within 45 minutes to an hour away from Jacksonville. We don't want to live on base; we would prefer a quiet area for the both of us to settle into when he returns, so for now I'm looking for a one bedroom apartment for myself while he's away. He's only familiar with the areas where bases are located and I've never been to North Carolina, so all suggestions are appreciated - I have no clue where to look!

I'm open to places than are maybe a bit farther than an hour as long as they're fairly quiet and safe.

Thanks guys!

What kind of area are you looking for? Do you want rural living or would you need easy access to stores?

To be honest, there aren't really that many towns close to Jacksonville. New Bern is just over 45min away. Sneads Ferry is about 30min.

A more rural area would be nice - I don't necessarily need quick access to stores or anything.

There is Richlands, but it is mostly single family homes. You can find small rentals in Hubert, Pumpkin Center, Swansboro, etc. Sneads Ferry is nice, near the beach, and still rural enough we have cotton and corn fields.
