We live in Charlotte and are looking for a great family outing to an apple orchard this fall. Looks like there are several in or near Hendersonville. We are open to anything within a couple hour drive. Suggestions?

Around 80% of the apples grown in North Carolina come from Henderson County. The apple harvest season runs from late August through October. You should have come up to Hendersonville for the 60th annual N.C. Apple Festival held Labor Day weekend each year.

We were all ready to head up to the Apple Festival in Hendersonville this year...when we awoke in the morning and had a sick household Still we are bound and determined to make it up there.

If you are are looking for something a little closer to home there's also Windy Hill Orchard and Cider Mill located in York, SC. They are having their annual Apple Harvest Festival on Saturday October, 21st.

Hi Mindy,

When we lived in Charlotte (through 2004) we took my daughter's girl scout group to a great orchard off of 160 in SC ( I can't think of the name of the town...it was just a little bit after you cross into SC. They have hayrides, and activities for everyone all through the harvest months (and the BEST apple donuts you'll ever taste). Sorry I can't think of the name.

Good Luck

It is not off of 160...but that does happen to be the one I mention above "Windy Hill Orchard".
