If you likied Asheville, I'd post on the Mountains forum and reloate there. NC is a very diverse state, and you can't really use "We liked Asheville" to extrapolate to whether you would like the Triangle, Charlotte, or Wilmington simply because they are all a part of the same state. They are VERY different areas and "where in NC should I live" is like asking "Where in NY state should I live?"--how can you compare Long Island, NYC, the Upstate cites, and rural areas and tell someone "you should live in _____." There are so many factors, and you haven't really given very much to go on except that you liked Asheville, so I would concentrate on Asheville or similar mountain areas, even those (gasp) not in NC but with similar traits that you liked about Asheville.

And the new construction fields have been hit HARD in NC. I wouldn't go presuming that your husband will have an easy go if it "anywhere in NC". Just being realistic.

if your husband is a general contractor than I advise you to stay in auburn. CNY is actually building and is on a bit of a comeback. NC on the other hand had their bubble burst; basically, everyone from ny that moved there realized that the streets are not paved in gold, and that in the end it is a step down from NY.

I dont meant to be negative though, and wish you the best of luck.
