I guess anytime he mentions Dorthea Dix, Union Station, etc. we'll have to remind him it's ancient history.
Well as usual, your wrong. Dix Park and Raleigh Union Station are both unique,in N.C.. Let me know when you find ANYTHING similar to either in Charrrrrrrrrlotte Both would be a big deal even in the big city lol.
Skyhouse Charlotte isn't a big deal. The entire project isn't even as big as the Raleigh version. Referred to in Raleigh as the Edison Project. Nobody care about a parking deck, with a tennis court on top.
When you have something new, please share. But going on and on and on about every little detail about Skyhouse. Come on guys.
Knowing you,you would die for Dix Park and Union Station. Being a lover of "urban development"
Dix park is cool & true no park we ever exist in Charlotte proper like it but if you want to see a truly impressive park you need to check out the Anne Close Greenway in Ft Mill. It's a whopping 2,000 acres & neither Raleigh or Charlotte have anything comparable to it. Like I posted earlier their plans to connect this Greenway to Charlotte's among others. Charlotte will have something along the lines of union station eventually .
McDowell Nature Center and Preserve
One of the first parks owned by Mecklenburg County, McDowell Park hasn't been around for long (it first opened in the mid-70s), but during its short existence it has grown from a 136-acre lake-side park to emerge as one of Charlotte's most noteworthy natural assets. From upland hardwood forests to Piedmont prairie, the park offers a variety of beautiful landscapes and habitats, and its now 1108 acres are popular stomping grounds for hikers, bird-watchers and nature-lovers of all types. The McDowell Nature Center, meanwhile, is worth stopping by for its butterfly gardens, bird-feeding stations, animal exhibits and a gift shop. (704-588-5224)

Umstead State park is in Raleigh. Over 5000 acres if I'm not mistaken.
McMullen & Lower McAlpine Creek Greenway
Mecklenburg County made a decision years ago to unite the city via a web of parks and green spaces. They've poured lots of money into the project, and the result is something that can be enjoyed by all. Over 30 miles of greenways have been developed, and almost 150 miles are still being planned. In fact, the greenway system is quickly becoming one of the country's finest, and the eight existing parcels, like McMullen & Lower McAlpine Creek, are definitely worth checking out. (704-336-3854)
