"Discover for yourself why North Carolina’s capital city is the state’s hottest live music destination. From big-budget touring productions to free, weekly music festivals, Greater Raleigh’s got the most live music of any destination in North Carolina."
"An independent music scene is a localized independent music-oriented (or, more specifically, indie rock/indie pop-oriented) community of bands and their audiences. Local scenes can play a key role in musical history and lead to the development of influential genres; for example, No Wave from New York City, Madchester from Manchester, and Grunge from Seattle.
Indie scenes are often created as a response to mainstream or popular music. These scenes are created in opposition of mainstream culture and music and often contribute to the formation of oppositional identities among individuals involved in the scene.[1]"
"United States: Chapel Hill, North Carolina: The "Chapel Hill" music scene (which also often includes bands from nearby Research Triangle cities Raleigh and Durham) was one of the biggest hotbeds of indie music starting in the mid-1980s with bands like The Connells, Flat Duo Jets and Southern Culture On The Skids. The 1990s saw the rise of indie rock bands such as Polvo, Archers of Loaf and Superchunk which started Merge an indie record label of the 1990s.[citation needed] The 2000s saw the arrival of bands like Ben Folds Five and Squirrel Nut Zippers. The indie club Cat's Cradle (which originated as a folk cafe in the 1960s) has also played a major part in the "Chapel Hill" music scene hosting "little known" acts (like Pearl Jam, Nirvana, and Smashing Pumpkins) that eventually went on to become major "alternative" acts in the mid-1990s."
I've been to Chapel Hill many times around 5 years ago. I thought it was depressing place personally. My friend, Maria, her brother went to school there.
And Chapel Hill isn't Raleigh anyway. You're trying to prove center city Raleigh is relevant.,, it's not.
Even so... Everyone knows the liberal capital, the gay capital of NC is Asheville. Raleigh can't compare at all. Especially the center city lol.
