Have any of you sold something at a flea market? I am not a business but I had a few items to sell at a flea market for one or maybe two Saturdays until the few T-shirts I have are gone. So my questions are:
- Do I have to have a cash register?
- Do I have to charge customers' taxes (like they do at Macy's or Belk's for ex) or is it tax-free?

Thank you all
No need for register, I usually just carry the cash out of my wallet. I avoid charging things in cents to avoid carry change. For instance if something I think will go less than a dollar Ill combine it with other items to get more and get rid of the stuff. I usually break a 50 down to 10 -$1s- 4-$5s and 2$10s and carry that.
Depends on average price point what demonination should be prominent in your wallet or envelope.
You dont charge for taxes and different flea markets have different booth rates in this state.
Just curious how your did you end up selling at one of flea markets and which one you went to? I made mistake selling the week after black friday last year and it was dead.. uurgh some of stuff I practically gave away just to cover booth rental so at least I only lost was time made a tad profit but not what I was hoping for.

Actually, I still have not gone due to the chilly weather. I am waiting for the weather to warm up since I will be outside. Anyway, I was told it is $30.00 for Saturday and $25.00 for Sunday @ the NC State Fairgrounds so I don't know what you meant when you said you hope flea markets will remain free? They are not.

I meant I hope they remain tax free. That sounds about right for volume they receive.

Oh...yeah that's a good thing. I think it's probably because they know it's a one-time thing for most people (once they sold everything they have, there is no more to sell). I beleive it is different for those who are in the indoor section of the flea market. The Manager told me those people are there permanently (like in a mall) so since they probably are a business they pay taxes. It is also the reason they do not give people a spot inside the indoor section (it is reserved for the permanent people). I asked to get a spot inside for one day but they refused.
