The 10 worst states for taxes- MSN Money

Quote:
No. 7: North Carolina
North Carolina is the seventh-worst state overall, and it is also the eighth worst for individual income tax rates and the fourth worst for sales taxes. However, the state's corporate taxes are decent (ranking 29th) and unemployment insurance taxes rank fifth in the nation.

Whoo Hoo North Carolina made a list.

This list is before new higher unemployment tax for employers goes into effect.
Tennessee may not have no income tax but there sales tax is 9.4

Too bad property taxes aren't factored in. That would have helped NC, probably.

Well, number one and two are NY and NJ so I don't ho much this would to deter people from moving here, since the bulk seem to come from those two places. Not that it needs to be stemmed, but the number moving here unemployed and looking for work does.

The gas tax NC is pretty high too, that's why people fill up in SC before they cross over. It's typically $.15 to .20 cents cheaper down there.

Not exactly. The GOP only gained control of the state legislature 2 years ago, but they couldn't do a lot yet as Perdue (D) was still the Governor. It wasn't until just a few months ago that the GOP got control of both houses AND the governor's office, so now they will be able to put their touches on NC's taxes.

In effect ClevelandMike is right, you can thank the Democrats who were in power for the most of history in NC for our current taxes.
