It's sad a competitive conservative today has to be ONLY publicly pro-gun, anti-women rights, pro-christian ideals/anti-gay. Add in a touch of anti-science and you are set.

Its sad no matter who it is running whether it that will be there platform and whoever it is will win because Democrats vote less during mid terms.

Looks like Berry's out:

Berry happy where she is

State Labor Commissioner Cherie Berry told an Associated Press reporter she will pass on a chance to run for Kay Hagan’s U.S. Senate seat next year because she does not want to leave the state and loves her job.

Berry said many people had asked her to consider challenging Hagan, but even more want her to stay where she is. The Catawba County Republican is in her fourth term.

Berry is one of several Republicans who’ve been considering whether to challenge the Democratic Hagan.

Thom Tillis has basically all but announced he's going to run. He's already started a SuperPAC.

Tillis is not all that well liked by his own party. The other legislators and local county chapters of the GOP have various beefs with him. I think the primary will still be competitive.

I met Greg Brannon Monday night. what struck me is the way he answers questions. He knows who he is. All of his answers were quick because he didn't have to filter himself based on what he thinks people want to hear and were backed by the Constitution.

Hagan has a few things in her favor, namely the fired-up moderate/Left public right now from all of the radical stuff done by the Legislature. If they can keep their momentum going and GOTV in 2014, she could win, especially since she won't have to field a primary.

Also, 2014 will be the last year there won't be a voter ID requirement and straight-party voting is allowed. The former tends to help Democrats and the latter will give her benefit from the "throw 'em out!" crowd who are mad at the NC Leg. They are registering in large numbers and gathering grass roots groups to GOTV in 2014.

Art Pope may be too bust spending on local races to concentrate on hers.

I agree that Hagan has been pretty milquetoast, but I'll take that any day of the week over the reputation our state is getting right now for the Legislature, or used to have because of Jesse H.
