It is underhanded and deceitful. And the fact that it was done so quietly means this was in the works for quite some time.
To quote a friend of mine from facebook which I agree with. First Fracking, now this. "Regardless of your position on abortion, this is not the way laws should be passed in North Carolina. We debate, we discuss, and we eventually vote. Ramming through a vote on the cusp of a holiday weekend is wrong, undemocratic, and un-American. And we need to let the Senate know it."
I echo this sentiment!
Can you imagine requiring a physician to be present when a woman take a "morning after" pill!
This is ludicrous!
Maybe we should require physicians to be present when a man takes Viagra or Cialis...as there is a serious risk of priapism.
What's really pathetic is the jerk who said the new provisions were to ensure "women's safety". BS This bill is designed to do away with legal abortions in our state. At least be truthful about the intent. The sad thing is it won't do away with abortions, just drive more women to quacks and sometimes death.
Don't you just love that reasoning? I'm so tired of everyone acting like women are morons and not capable of making an informed decision without intervention. It's offensive.
This legislature and governor were elected by a majority vote in the last election, in a state that has voted for a Democratic presidential candidate only once since 1980 (2008). Clearly someone must be supporting what they are doing ....

I think a lot of people saw how well he did in Charlotte, building up that city. He had great PR during his campaign. That's probably why he ended up with the winning vote. However now people are seeing exactly why it's been so long since we've had a Republican governor. It wouldn't surprise me if we swung back to the other side again for a long time after this chaotic bs we have right now.

The majority of NC was sick of the way the Dems were handling things, and that's why you have a republican run state right now. Like it or not, the majority wanted a change, and got it. The dems will get their chance again in a couple of years.
If the Democrats pulled the same thing (and they have over the years) how many of you would complain? None. So take your faux outrage and put it somewhere else.
I just read through the provisions, and don't see what the big deal is, to be honest. They have not "banned" abortion. Looks like to me, you can still get one, a Dr must be present, and you have to pay for it yourself. What was so terrible, that I overlooked? I fully agree with you having to pay for them, not them not being covered by insurance, federal heath plans, etc.
Do you think YOU should have to pay for life support for someone who chose to not wear a helmet, while riding a motorcycle?

The majority of abortions are via RU486, which is medication in two doses, separated by days.
Two trips to the doctor to take pills?
Thank you to all of you who went downtown this morning, I'm out of town but with you in spirit. I'm disgusted with what's going on in NC politically right now.
