A Rowan County couple says they are outraged after a local pharmacy company handed out pill bottles filled with candy during a 4th of July parade.
Donald Hobart called the WBTV newsroom on Friday morning and said Price Pharmacy in Granite Quarry handed out the pill bottles with Skittles inside during the parade in Faith on Thursday.
"As they come by, they threw this prescription bottle out for kids; my grandkids and my friends' kids," Donald Hobart said.
"My four-year-old son brought it to me and I immediately took it from him," Heather Hobart told WBTV. "I don't think a child is going to know the difference. They are going to see a bottle and say 'My last bottle had candy in it and let's go home and get in mama and daddy's medicine cabinet and see if there is candy in there'."
That is pretty stupid. They should have bought those little kid-size packs of Skittles and maybe put a label on the individual bags (that would get torn in the process).
Years ago I was a manager of a medical practice. A detail man (sales rep for pharmaceutical company) came in with a glass medical apothecary jar filled with candy for us to give out to patients. I was livid as this was before safety caps and there was a great deal of talk about keeping meds away from children. I wrote a letter to the company and never got a response. The sales rep accused me of being "Too alarmist", How any professional could not see the dangers inherent in putting candy in a medical-looking container is beyond me.
if that is the biggest problem we face today, we are in great shape!
About thirty children die each year from accidental poisonings, which include ingesting medicine. While that is a small number, if it was your child, it would definitely be a big problem.

Or maybe it was an anti-candy campaign. Mommy took away my candy so Skittles must be bad.
Probably half of them are on some kind of medication anyway.
