It was reported North Carolina has 10th most farmers markets, even though the news agency didnt state who did the report I think it great accomplishment. It was reported NC has over 8,000, some operate during the week as well as Saturday. Lets all help our local farmers and growers by carrying some cash.
North Carolina Agricultural Department has a wonderful site that lets you choose in easy drop down menu a farmers market near you. NC Farm Fresh
I welcome to share your experience at one of the many farmers markets. Share which one and what was at this market .
Thanks
This is nice, but NC also happens to be the tenth most populous state. If you break it down, North Carolina has the 34th most farmers markets per capita (20 per million people) and the 20th most per land area (3.5 per 1000 sq mi). So, it's pretty average. I wouldn't gloss over that. I currently live in the 4th most populated state (Florida) and will tell you without looking at the report (can't open it) that it's no where near that density in terms of farmers markets here in Florida. In fact most of our "farmers markets" don't even have legitimate farmers attending. I know, it boggles the mind...
I find the urban farmers markets have more growers vs farmers. Huntersville is like that and some of these places it would be almos cheaper to buy at Whole Foods base on these growers prices.
None less Im going to try to set cash aside and make farmers markets a routine thing to do.
It approaching harvest season.
