Just got my new health rate for 2014. From $142 a month to $381. Any else seeing ridiculous rates? I am not going to renew and just pay cash. Thanks you know who!

Haven't seen mine yet, but we're all going to see cost increases next year. They should change the name from ACA to UCA - Unaffordable Care Act or Unavoidable Care Act...take your pick.

The first line on my BCBSNC page was "Your current plan is not available for next year." What happened to, "If you like your health care plan, you will be able to keep your health care plan. Period. No one will take it away. No matter what."?! Huh?

It looks like my rate more than doubled as well. I am used to it going up 5-10%, but 104% in one year!?!?!

I imagine part of that is being forced to get maternity coverage. Even when I knew I was going to be pregnant, I didn't get maternity coverage. The amount extra it cost per month equaled how much I had to pay out of pocket to the doctor. So, what was the point? And if something went wrong, my regular insurance would kick in. Everyone I know who actually ran the numbers skipped it.

And no, we won't qualify for the tax credits.

How am I magically supposed to come up with an extra $135 a month? We are at the edge (or beyond) as it is.

You will not get any replies from the Liberals on this. They wanted change and this is what you get. These laws are destroying our country. My specialists (two) have retired this year and they told me it was because they did not to deal with this law. Obamacare is a train wreck!!! Socialism does not work anywhere.

I'll reply.

If we had more insurers participating, there would have been more competition, and lower rates.

Our GOP state leadership prevented that by refusing to set up a state exchange, which scared off other insurers.

Obamacare definitely needs improvement, but the fact that in North Carolina it's worse than other states is solely due to McCrory and his cronies.

And ClevelandMike - I guess you were planning to reject Medicare when the time comes, right?

Wrong: Insurers don't want to play because the dice are loaded.

I am a younger senior. I have heard from 12 -15 of my friends, no one has seen an increase of less than 50%.

As I suspected, Obamacare is no more than yet another wealth transfer scheme. It is a sad state when health care has become so politicized.

It is even sadder that due to the ineffective American Education system, well meaning people are so blind to the reality due to lack of any higher level thinking ability.

Thank God for the military, I don't have to swim in the Obamacare cesspool.

Oh, in regard to competition...in insurance the companies compete against the actuarial table, not each other. No one is gonna take a hit by having to cover pre-existing. Remember, insurance is to cover the unexpected catastrophe by spreading the huge risk to one, over a number of people. A pre-existing condition is 100% risk. It should not be insured, its cost are a certainty. Again, concrete thinkers see "insurance" folks who have learned to think critically can reason this out. Sad.

So because you get military benefits, which are, by the way, funded by taxpayers, you don't think the less fortunate should get the benefits afforded by Obamacare?

Hypocrite much?

I'll chime in and mention not even Obama wanted this. This was the compromise because republicans were too scared of the change. Obama was more than happy to try something else, but no republican offered him another solution. They just complained and that's it. So, even he thinks it could be better. But, it's better than before. The last health care was even worse. I had BCBSNC when I first moved here. guess what they raised my money too? I started with about $800/month. Then it went to about $1,700 a month. Then it went to $2,400 a month. That's more than my mortgage! That was just crap. This ALL happened before Obama even took office. Then when he did. the high risk pool started. I join and that went from $2,400 to $350. MUCH more affordable. Next year, after I choose a different health care plan and company, it's supposed to go down. For me, I'm all happy because there is no way in hell I could afford what I used to have to pay. This is NC's BCBS for you. In other states, it was way lower to begin with, but I wasn't moving there. I had to deal with BCBSNC because they were the only ones accepting pre-existing conditions. I had no choice and they took advantage of it. Now, the other insurance companies are not allowed to turn me down so BCBS has more competition. Healthcare is bad in this country. This country is going down in their ratings for health care. We are behind those that are universal health care. If they can make it work, so can they. People cry out SOCIALISM, yet no one complains about Medicare. Isn't that based off a socialism model? Our government is supposed to take care of the people who voted for them. Yet capitalism requires them to stay out of everyone's business. It just hasn't worked and it needs to change. I'm no politician so I can't make suggestions, but I know when something isn't working.
