Good evening all,
I'm preparing to sell my old car to a friend from out of state. What paperwork and steps do I need to take in order to complete/conduct the sale?

Have you looked at this:

NCDOT: Title Transfer

What state does your friend live in? We're getting ready to do the reverse and buy a van from a friend in PA. The spouse is going to get it, but I believe the friend signs the title on the back and then we take it to the license plate office here in NC and get it put in our name.

Thanks Poppydog. The purchasing friend lives in SC. I *think* all I have to do based on the research is to sign the title over to them, get it notarized, and then when they return home to SC and get it registered there, they send the plates back to me at which point I can turn them in. Does that sound right?

Sounds right to me, but I'd ask your friend regarding SC rules, too.
