Now we're just among the worst of the worst.
where's the data that says our ACHIEVEMENT is among the worst?

I'm pretty sure that is the only benchmark that really matters at the end of the day, yes?

I guess we need to look to the states that pay teachers a decent wage and still get high marks in educational quality. It seems to me that if they can do it, so can we.

The problem is that their taxes are so high they can't afford to live there so they're coming here. Doesn't sound sustainable to me.

Check out NH. Low taxes overall, good schools. If it wasn't so cold I'd go back in a heartbeat! A much different demographic though.

It is up to the general assembly. I'm not holding my breathe that teachers will be treated fairly.

Raleigh is state capital so I could understand why some would post it under Raleigh.

Maybe low taxes but in Concord (I just checked this) the median per capita income is $29k and the median house value is $219k. How does that work?

I don't really know what you mean. Look at Manchester, Nashua, Hollis etc. Concord is in the sticks (relatively speaking of course).

Look at NH test scores and participation rates, and then do some calculations on taxes. I found we'd pay over $5k less in taxes annually living in NH than living in NC and that includes owning a home worth twice as much. It's sickening how much tax NC actually levies against its citizens. Sad part is those coming from NY/NJ pay even more and think this is a great deal! I really don't know where the money goes, as it obviously does not go into the education column!
