First, let me thank you for reading this thread. Yes, I've spent days searching through and reading all the threads for relocating throughout the states, but now I need the information to be more personalized. Your assistance is greatly appreciated.
Me: will be 32 in January, single with no kids, mixed (black/white) male from OH. Born and raised in OH, lived in east PA for part of college, west OH the other part. Spent 2 years in San Diego and the last 4-1/2 years back in OH. Absolutely LOVE San Diego -- the almost-perfect city -- but, the cost of living is outrageous and I'd like to own a home, not live in a box.
Employment: Worked in real estate lending for past 4 years, currently laid-off, and have no desire to get back into the "corporate" rat race. (Not an everyday suit-and-tie guy.) Have a BA in Business, concentrating in Sports Management, and want to FINALLY "use" it, along with my entrepreneurial spirit, to become a personal trainer / strength & conditioning coach and one day open my own facility.
Hobbies: I love movies! I shoot music videos for local artists, but want to expand upon my art and pursue filming a feature, short films, and possible a web-based series. Like to physically challenge myself, beginning MMA-style training, never climbed a rock and now want to go for Everest -- don't ask why, don't know.
Need or Want: Sunshine, doesn't have to be hot, just sunny. I like the idea of mountains being near and the beach being close, too (Raleigh). A place to move upward in life, reach my goals while living a good quality of life. Love women, Latin, Asian, White, Black -- funny, I really have no "types" in particular, diversity. One day, want to be married, start a family. This next stop doesn't have to be my final, but it would be nice if I COULD lay my roots there. Being able to find a job within my desired field, while expanding upon my filmmaking / TV is a must. I could go on, but you get the point...
I need your help! I know LA is diverse and a great place for film, but I don't want to spend my life, raise a family one day, etc. in a tiny apartment I'd have to scrape by to afford. I've heard and read great things about Austin, but don't know if I'm a Texas-type-of-guy (plus, my very serious ex lives there). ATL? I've only been to the airport. I did trek across NC for a week years ago and loved it, though. I just don't know. HELP ME PLEASE!

Thanks in advance.
From everything you have written I have to say I believe 100% that NC is for you Charlotte would be a good choice to get everything on your list, except easy access to the beach (closest beach to us is near Charleston at 3.5 hours). So if the beach is really a top priority go ahead and concentrate your search on the Raleigh area or Wilmington instead - which is at the beach AND has the film school and studio's that might really interest you. I have spent time or lived in all the places you mentioned at one time or another and I think you belong in North Carolina

lovesMountains:
As usual you hit the nail on the head, helping someone out again who is leaning towards moving to NC. My suggestion to CDEI would be to check out Wilmington, as it has the movie biz and the beaches and then Raleigh as it is only 2-1/4 hours to Wilmington from there (yea, I know some who can get there in 1-1/2 hrs but I do the speed limit...lol).
I don't know, I think Atlanta offers everything Charlotte does, plus has a bigger music/film scene. LA is out if you struggled with the cost of living in SD, and you seem to be hesitant on the Texas "style" already.
Now, I'm starting to feel the love! Thanks, everyone -- keep it coming. Your information is helpful. I've heard and read about Wilmington, but didn't know if it was too small of a market.
I'm excited. I don't know where I'll end up, but I'm sure I'll figure it out soon. You're all great. Gimme more info, please. : )

Now, if mm34b sees this post he will give you the ultimate of all information as he is a walking encyclopaedia!!..Guess it's time for my Wife and I to get our monthly Wilmington fix.
Something like 400 movies have been filmed in Wilmington in the last 20+ years, along with tv shows and many commercials. I believe the Screen Gems studio is where Brandon Lee was fatally injured years ago filming "The Crow". Anyway, Wilmington is called Hollywood East
If this is what they mean by Southern Hospitality, I'm digging it. Okay, Wilmington sounds great. I've read about it, and due to my love of film, heard about it's filmmaking prowess; however, would it be better to live in Raleigh or, say, even Charlotte for the opportunities within each of those cities. Filmmaking is a passion, but it doesn't pay the bills (yet ). Not to mention, I do want the ability to be around other singles -- not like a college town, but not like all my "new" friends will be married, too.
NC is great! I put this thread in other cities, but the NC folks have been the most helpful. That alone gives me a warm and fuzzy feeling about life in the Carolinas.
