Hi everyone! I will be accepting a job @ fort Bragg & was hoping I could get some insight on what neighborhoods to live in. It's just my husband & myself so not worried about school districts, we are in our mid 30's and want to live somewhere that's nice and safe but still accessible to night life on the weekends, something with a vibrant downtown etc.... We prefer a townhome but would be open to apartments as well, I don't want to drive no more than 45 min to work & don't want to pay over $1000 for a 2-3 bedroom. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!

Fayetteville's downtown is really coming along compared to how it used to be. Have you been there recently, goldenage? I just drove through there on Friday night and saw lots of folks out eating at the various restaurants and cafes. There's quite a bit of outdoor seating. I don't think I would want to live downtown, personally, but Haymount is nice if you need to live in Fayetteville and it's close to Hay St/downtown. There's an arthouse movie theater downtown, too, the Cameo, and various parks, the Airborne museum, etc. There is a lot of poverty near downtown, too, though. If you need to live close to Ft Bragg, Fayetteville is certainly worth checking out.
You might also like Moore County, Pinehurst and Southern Pines. Closer to the Triangle, you could check out Fuquay-Varina, Holly Springs, etc.

That's good to hear. I had seen the street views with an outdoor cafe that looked promising. But would you really call the downtown "vibrant"?
The OP could certainly go on the weekends to Raleigh or Durham for more exciting downtowns.
I wouldn't call downtown vibrant. Sure there are a few overrated cafes with outdoor seating and a few random "christian book store" type stuff, but nothing vibrant at all. I'd call Skibo more vibrant than Hay St on a Friday or Saturdday night.
I wouldn't call any place w/in 45 minutes of Fort Bragg vibrant as far as a downtown, personally, but if you have to be at Ft Bragg Fayetteville is worth a serious look, and the downtown is VASTLY different than it was when I was growing up there—no more Rick's Lounge with the Shady Ladies upstairs.
They are building that new development right across from the Airborne and Special Ops museum. That would be a good choice and walking distance to downtown.

They sure are. I was really surprised at how nice it looked. This is not a great picture but it gives you an idea. This was taken the weekend before last.
Thanks everyone for the suggestions!! Greatly appreciated!! I'll be coming down this week to check some places out!!
