How is the Triangle more characteristically Southern than the Triad when the Triangle has many more transplants from outside the South, is more liberal, and Raleigh's Southern drawl has nearly faded away? I asked if you read the question because nothing you mentioned in connection with the Triangle has anything to do with being characteristically Southern; instead, you seem to have interpreted it as which is "better" overall.
Some people like to try and correct your opinions...but I agree with the Triangle.
The question depends on what people mean by "southern". I think of modern southern characteristics such as fast-growing cities full of transplants, shiny new skylines, booming economies, and exploding international communities - not the negative stereotypes some people associate with the South.
Out of these three metro regions, which one do you believe still retains the most southern charm? It can be anything, from accents, restaurants, etc.
I see nothing negative in the examples given of "Southernness." Interesting how some folks like to make those sorts of assumptions when you're just going by the examples explicitly given.
With those examples in mind, the Triad has it all over the Triangle and by a good measure. It actually has the best of both worlds, with nice downtowns that are a great mix of new and old, more historic points of interest, more well-rounded economies, etc. I actually think of all NC cities, Winston-Salem does the best job of combining historic Southern characteristics with modern, urban Southern trends.

Definitely the Triangle.
I think OP meant traditionally southern...stereotypes included.

Those are things you could find anywhere. Certainly not a southern thing in particular.

And even if we were to limit those characteristics to a particular region, they would be associated with the Sunbelt which includes portions of the South but not the entire region.
Charlotte or the Triangle, which area holds more of a southern feel?
What would you say and why?
