They both feel Southern. Being IN the South and all.

Seriously, if you mean "Southern" like sweet tea and Southern belles?

Neither.

If you're talking about that rural southern feel that you've probably seen on TV then neither one. You have to journey into the smaller NC towns for that.

I mean southern by accents, restaurants, the amount of transplants compared to natives, etc.

We drove through Charlotte today coming in from Waxhaw on NC Highway 16 and leaving Charlotte on I-77 going North. I don't know about being Southern but one cannot imagine a more clean and pretty town. I don't know who decided no advertising signs on the interstate but it is really refreshing to look at grass and trees. Somebody keep up the good work.

Those skyscrapers don't look very small town but they look new and shiny.

They're honestly very similar in the aspects you asked about.

I went through the Charlotte Airport recently and found a place that did not serve sweet tea, so it's a small thing, but I would vote for the Triangle as being more southern. I can always get sweet tea there.

There are places here that do not serve sweet tea. And places in Charlotte that do.

Probably more southern accents in Charlotte, but both Raleigh and Charlotte are losing their accents.

No shortage of good BBQ in either place. You're in the best state for that. Cast out any heretics that say otherwise!

They are very, very close in "southern feel". Maybe one is at 62% and the other is at 63%. It's just negligible. I would give the edge to Charlotte with NASCAR and I think there are a few more accents there, but really you're just splitting hairs.

I think Charlotte has Southern charm in the historical neighborhoods like 4th ward. I love 4th ward, especially on hot humid muggy days with big trees at 4th ward park, the smell of flowers, the houses look Southern. I do not like BBQ but yesterday I ate at a great Southern place also in uptown on College called "Merts" and got BBQ just because it was so beautifully Southern that day. I also got a SunDrop to because it was just to beautifully Southern to not drink one.

I love the Southern feel in the historical parts. I think Charlotte has Southern charm (not sure about Raleigh) and I love it (and I say that as a super liberal, gay millenial who hates guns rednecks, confederate flags and the tea party and son of Europeans). There is a difference between "Southern" and "Redneck"

I would classify Charleston as very Southern also. I haven't been there in a while but I might soon.
