I live in Albemarle. Lake Tillery is to the East and Badin Lake is to the north. It's a great place to live about 45-60 minutes from downtown Charlotte.

+1 on that. Not very busy (compared to Lake Norman or other big lakes) and you can get some good boating done there. It's a pretty clean lake, too, if I remember correctly.
