Hi just wondering where other Northerners dont go I want to move to NC but dont want to be stuck in the middle of a place where there are alot of Northeners. I dont have anything against others I just dont see the sense of moving and finding more people like me (Not that Iam an A hole or anything) I would just like to see what the Southern thing is all about

Then i suggest you move to the hollers over yonder either in W.Viriginia or Kentucky, you'll definitely see what the southern thing is all about...good and bad.
When in W.Virginia...be sure to apply the phrase...."By God"...whenever possible, you'll fit right in.

There is no southern heritage in the south any more unless you hide in the mountians with your southern friends.People are tired of being made fun of and being insulted by people who don't understand.

There is too "southern heritage" in the south.Don't mistake me for makin' fun of southerners. I'm quite fond of the south. Best place in the country to me. You'd have to move to eastern Kentucky mountains and/or the south western side of W.Virginia to escape the mass exodus of people flocking the the south region in general is all i am saying.

Well, the four largest population areas all have plenty of Northerners, most likely because that's where the jobs are that bring them here (or at least allow them to live here). There are still plenty of small town places that aren't seeing much growth in population, but unless you are retired how will you make a living? Now, if you work from home and can live anywhere you'd have a nice list of places to check out where I doubt you'd find any "yankees". Let me know if you want my recommendations of where to look

Well, then just stay away from the major population centers of the state, the retirement vistas (such as Pinehurst), and the coast. Just about any rural area of the state will give you the TRUE Southern experience. The experience in each of the 3 regions of the state will vary, but you'll know you're in the South no matter what area you settle, just keep it rural.

You are the exception. While most people moving from the north want change, apparently the only real change they want is a geographical or climate change. Everyone wants the same stores from up north, mass transit, restraunts, ....
2. Lake Norman area. A beautiful place, great lake, but now heavily overrun by over-development. Mooresville, Huntersville, Cornelius, Davidson, Denver. You see as many NY and NJ tags as you do NC tags. Complete loss of any southern identity, and complete commercialism of NASCAR.
3. Hendersonville area south of Asheville in the NC mountains. Big retirement area.
4. Upstate SC close to the Charlotte city limits. Ft Mill and Tega Cay.
So if you want to know places to go for a true southern feel, find a small town with a sizeable distance from a major city. Avoid a 60 mile radius within the city limits of Raleigh or Charlotte.
Benefits in the country side will be cheap land beautiful land, low taxes, no traffic.

Carolina Native, you are correct. Even though your post was not addressed to me specifically, I have to agree, I am looking to possibly relocate from out of state, and I AM looking for what you said, While most people moving from the north want change, apparently the only real change they want is a geographical or climate change. I have to admit that your statement is very true (for me) - I am looking to keep things that I'm familiar with (and within my comfort zone), while looking for a geographical and climate change.
mass transit? Ugh. I won't miss that one bit!!
Do any of you know any Northerners ( I mean, personally know actual people) who have said they want more busses or trains or subways? Or is it the policy wonks that push for it?
