I live in Rocky Mount & can tell you that there are apartment complexes near both of the Eckerd's stores that I am familiar with. There is also public transportation - bus routes that run all over the city, but you probably would do better to have a car - just some basic transportation, so you can get out and explore on your time off. Rents are going to run you $650-900 a month, depending on the size of apt you choose & age of the complex (most complexes are on the older side here, though). We are renting right near one of the Eckerd's, as our home in TX has not yet sold, and it is older, but still a very nice & well cared for complex with an excellent family atmosphere.

You may hear people speak negatively about Rocky Mount on this board - that there is nothing here; it's unattractive, etc..., but I have the feeling they may not have visited in awhile. A lot of good things have happened & a lot of growth took place after Floyd. It has its problems, just like any city does, but I have found that the people are very friendly & I have been impressed with the new arts center, library and Y , among other things. There are plenty of good stores here and new restaurants are opening.

Rocky Mount's slogan is "The City on the Rise" - I think this is a very good description of the town. Please feel free to e-mail me privately if you have any questions.

I have never been to either town, but I just read another forum where someone asked what are the worst places to live in NC, and Fayetteville kept topping the list.
