Rocky Mount on pace for 36 murders this year. Obviously it wont be that many but 3 already in January is insane.

I think this survey is set up to make the smaller cities look more dangerous than our larger cities. This helps our larger cities look more attractive to investors and create more industry to those areas.

The only danger in Asheville is when QuilterChick comes to town to shop a yarn sale...she's got some sharp elbows!
Love ya QC!

Oh, that's sew funny! You've got me in stitches.

I live in a town in WNC with crime rates all over the place. One site gives it an "A" for low crime. Another site gives it a 10 out of 100, with 100 being the safest. Last year that same site gave it a 2 rating. City-Data gives it a 414 which is average, but on the high side, since average is 200 to 449. All I know is that I feel very safe here. I just went outside (it's 2:30 in the morning) to look at the snow. I feel like singing Christmas carols. lol

I lived in Monroe and it has a couple sketchy neighborhoods but I wouldn't think it would make the top 10 dangerous in NC. It does have it's share of illegals and poor people on welfare but despite all that it's a good town with pretty surroundings.

Lumberton is a nowhere place, all the crime is probably due to no jobs in the area.

Hickory is dangerous, once you get off the main roads there are a lot of problems there from drugs to prostitution.

I just can't see some of these small towns being as dangerous as ghettos in Charlotte. Charlotte has many bad neighborhoods that are bigger in population and area than half the cities on that list. There's no way the worst in hickory can compare to Milton Road, or The Boulevard Homes, ETC.

These type of stats are based off crime relative to the overall population of the cities. The most dangerous parts of a large city like Charlotte I'm sure are more dangerous than the places in those small towns but a larger city as a whole also has more low crime areas to balance things out.

I also just looked at the article again and noticed the huge dropoff in crime from Lumberton (#1) to Kinston (#2). I haven't actually been in the City of Lumberton itself in years but wow. If it's that much worse than Kinston then it must be like a living hell.
