This coming from someone who insisted that UTD was just 3 seasons. LOL

What I said comes from the very Wilmington reporter who also wrote the article this topic is based on. (See the OP). CBS & the state are working out the details of the amount the state will pay CBS for the 3rd season.

Under the Dome is in a tough spot to try and leave Wilmington if it continues...it has certain sets it has to return to because it's set in a small town. If it up and goes somewhere else, it loses those specific places/houses, etc...

What will be more telling is the motion pictures who can choose to go to different places. That's where the big loss is likely to occur, not TV series set in specific places.

This argument was certainly lost on those predicting doom and disaster for NC when the Governor & GA ended the irresponsible subsidy.

I must have missed those posts.

I saw some posts that worried about how many jobs would be lost when production moved (as several already have), but I didn't see anyone forecasting "doom and disaster"... I don't think keeping one set out of ten equates to resounding success, though I appreciate that it may qualify as such in your opinion. Given your propensity for hyperbole, truth-stretching and word-insertion I'd imagine that one in ten is a virtual golden age to your way of thinking.

There's just no reason for them to choose NC anymore, not with Georgia offering an attractive incentives package. Such a shame.

I don't really get why it matters if they stay or go? I would love to see some economic benefit statistics from these shows (Dawsons Creek would be the most intresting since it was probably the most important- if someone knows some links.. please share!!)

Is it that we just want these shows so we can say, hey, they are filmed in North Carolina? I am not trying to be a jerk here, i really don't understand it. I mean, its cool but I am sure it is not as important as having even a small manufacturing plant that employs 40+ people.

If anyone has any statistics on the impact of locally filmed television shows, please share!

It was the huge big pink elephant in the room that no supporter will ever discuss. There are none except for a largely discredited study paid for by none other than the MPAA. There was absolutely no due diligence performed on the benefit to the state vs the 25%, no limit, production cost rebate handed over the the very well off film industry. There wasn't even a mechanism, amazingly, that even verified the money was spent in NC.

They did not pass an end to the incentive. It had a sunset provision when originally passed. Good riddance to the free loaders. http://lifehealthus.com/image/images/122.gif

But... but... it's show biz !!!!

Listen, you make a really good point. Yeah, there's not a lot of trustworthy data out there from either side. That said, and I think I've mentioned upthread sometime back was as I understand it series production appears to be the only flavor that pencils out for economic return on investment. Features, while generally having larger budgets show strikingly less long-term enduring economic impact.

YMMV
