Not only is the grammar in the bolded sentence mind-numbingly inaccurate; but the subject matter is completely irrelevant and...false.
Durham is FAR more educated than Fayetteville. Compare the raw numbers and ratios of bachelors and post doc degrees for Durham (highest of any city in NC, one of the highest in the country) vs Fayetteville and try to tell anyone that Fayetteville is "more intelligent" than Durham.
Which I already said, Durham doesn't have fantastic school rating compared to Fayetteville and Winston-Salem, which are tied, the school ratings aren't just focused on grades, its also focused on the experience of being in a Durham Public School, which was 4/10 compared to CCS and Forsyth 5/10 (On main post).
And I say Fayetteville is smarter then people ACTUALLY born in Durham vs. people from other states/cities going to Duke, of course Durham has more doctors, but Fayetteville has more high school diplomas, which are required to get a bachelor
I'd say, Durham is a bit more educated then Fayetteville, but we still have better public schools
Except for the Airborne museum, which is well done, most of the sites that Jimmy listed really pale in comparison to places in Durham (and Winston-Salem). Fascinate U is a pitiful, little, rinkydink kids' museum. To compare it with the NC Museum of Life & Science in Durham is like comparing a 1981 Chrysler K car with a new 2014 Honda Odyssey (to keep with the kid friendly theme). The Fayetteville baseball team vs the Durham Bulls? Come on! The Bulls are one of the best AAA teams in the country with a fantastic stadium and great fans.
I am actually not one to slag on Fayetteville if folks have to be there and I try to help folks out who are being transferred there and are worried it's going to be horrible. There are some nice neighborhoods and some decent mid-level chains (plenty of places like Applebees and Chilis) and a few good local restaurants and hang outs (Huske Hardware House, the Mash House). You can make the best of Fayetteville, but there's nothing that is even in the same league as offerings in Durham.
There's a reason that housing is cheap in a lot of places. If you go to Northampton County you can find cheap housing too. It's not always a good thing.
And of course as LRoyal said (tried to rep you, but I gotta spread it around) LaFayette didn't FOUND Fayetteville! What insanity. The name of the town was changed to honor LaFayette just as it was in Fayetteville Arkansas, Fayetteville Georgia, Fayetteville NY, Fayetteville West Virginia, etc, etc. If you knew your Fayetteville history you would know that Fayetteville was originally two settlements called Campbelltown and Cross Creek (because downtown there's a place where it seems like two creeks cross w/o merging into one stream). Many of the early settlers were Scottish. Maybe brush up on your North Carolina and Fayetteville history: North Carolina History Project : Cross Creek .
FTR, I am happy for you to like Fayetteville, Jimmy. I think the city needs all the help it can get, but don't get into false comparisons. You wanna just talk about the great things going on in Fayetteville and not get in a pissing match with other towns, especially a pissing match you can't win. Sure, do some boosterism for the Airborne Museum and Clark Park, etc, but don't compare the Fayetteville Swampdogs (which actually is NOT a minor league team, but a summer collegiate team) to the Durham Bulls. Just say going to the Swampdogs games is fun or whatever.
You live in NC - supposedly - and you've never heard of Old Salem, Historic Bethabara, or the Reynolda House? Are you for real?
Only idiots go to WS for medical care? Really? I'll be sure to let my friend know this. I'm sure her specialists will be happy to hear that they're idiots. Lovely attitude to have about someone with spina bifida who is in a wheelchair.
Sure that all sounds good on paper. Now, join us in the real world. When you're sent to Afghanistan and are shot at daily, let me know how these "free" perks are so fabulous. Free housing...yeah concrete block buildings are everyone's dream residence. Free food...yeah white rice and hand sandwiches on white bread for dinner for a few days in a row is everyone's dream. Free clothes...yeah if you like the uniform...no mention of the time involved in maintaining that uniform. Free vehicles...yeah military vehicles.
Free medical care....a complete joke. Check out the issues with the VA. Free life insurance...yeah because soldiers are DYING! Free health insurance...see the VA issues. Free dental insurance...see the VA issues. Free burial...oh how fabulous...you're DEAD!
Retirement isn't $200k a year for the vast majority of soldiers. The GI Bill is not what it once was and many soldiers struggle finding the time to take classes while in the military because they're working or overseas. Paid vacations....yeah if you can take leave....not easy to do. Free vacation flights....not always on your schedule. Discounts and perks...yeah that 50 cents off a cup of coffee is so worth being shot at daily!
I have tons of people in my family who were military and some were drafted. Most of them say it was a horrible experience and war is a dreadful thing. They don't want their children or grandchildren in the military especially during war time. It's not the party you seem to think it is. And for the children of military families it's far from a party. There are plenty of children who have never met their fathers because they died in this stupid war.
This is what the free housing the military offers on Fort Bragg-
And this is what a friend of mine got as a free vehicle-
Why are you all arguing?
Maybe I should continue to repeat myself- I SAID OF THE 15 QUESTIONS I ASKED, DURHAM AS LAST BY 1 POINT, THAT DOESN'T MEAN DURHAM IS COMPLETELY WORST THEN FAYETTEVILLE, IT JUST MEANS OUT OF THE 15 QUESTIONS I ASKED, DURHAM WAS LAST BY 1 POINT. WINSTON-SALEM WAS TIED WITH FAYETTEVILLE ON OUTDOOR ACTIVITIES, THAT DOES NOT MEAN THAT WINSTON-SALEM NOR FAYETTEVILLE ARE BETTER THEN ONE ANOTHER ON OUTDOOR ACTIVITIES, THE TRUE WINNER TO THIS "COMPETITION" WOULD BE CONCORD.
lol, you guys are acting like i put Fayetteville #1. Unless you actually have lived in the city you have no idea what its like here.
Jimmy, I have lived in the city. I said that upthread. Born and raised there. You couldn't pay me to move back. I'm glad you enjoyed your time there.
As a parent, I would MUCH rather send my kids to Durham Public Schools than Cumberland County Schools. I have friends with kids in both systems and I am a product of Fayetteville schools, though a long time ago.
Again, I think you and Fayetteville are both better off just saying what you enjoy about it. Making comparisons with Durham and Winston is apples and oranges, or brussels sprouts and carrots or something. I'm glad you like Fayetteville and glad you enjoyed making your own quiz and taking it and grading it yourself. I think pretty much everybody else has a different view from you, but you go on and enjoy yourself.
The picture you just posted as free housing is The Villagio, ann apartment complex on Bragg Blvd. next to the Tropicana Motel!! It's NOT military housing!! I've been on the base and visited a family in military housing...and it was NOT that!
Wasn't there a scandal not long ago about the squalid conditions of the housing at Ft. Bragg? I remember hearing something about mold and exposed wires.
And since when did the military start issuing Mustang convertibles?

I didn't say it was exact, I said its similar, which I meant "Middle Class Apartments" and not all military members actually live on Fort Bragg.

There was a scandal. I worked on post in 2008-9. Soon after the scandal new construction began for both families and single soldiers.
I never met anyone who got a convertible. Even command, lol.
Oh, come on, the GIs get lots of free vehicles. They get Hum-vees, tanks, aircraft — all sorts of fun stuff.
Y'know my dad had a company car from his civilian job back in the day and my cousin the state trooper had a pretty sweet ride, too.
