Hi,
I recently purchased a home in Pikeville, 100 Smith Street, through owner financing. I put down $5000 and will pay the remainder at $250 a month for the next 5 years. I checked with the Register of Deeds and we went through a lawyer, so it all seems legit. However, what we cant really find out is why the house was vacant for so long, if someone passed away in it, what kind of repairs it may need. Really any information on this home, or neighborhood, would be greatly appreciated
Thanks
Becki

I hope you did not purchase this house without looking at it or having it inspected.
BTW, when I look at the address with Google maps, it is the Pikesville Town Hall, which is a modular building. Are you sure that is the address of the house?
Pikesville is out in the middle of farm country with very little going on, so perhaps that is the only reason it was vacant.
If you are actually living there or plan to live there (don't confirm this here online) it's really not a good idea to post your actual address on a public forum. There are far too many crazies out in the world. You would be much better off using local sources.... law enforcement, neighbors, nearby churches, etc. Too late now, but the questions you are asking should have been asked and answered before the house was purchased.

I agree. Contact your county registrar of deeds for this sort of info (start by searching their website) but you shouldn't put your address out here like this. This isn't really the kind of question this board is meant for, anyway, and it's not a good idea to advertise where you live like that. Contact the county.
It must be 100 E Smith St, b/c 100 W is town hall. From Google earth, it appears to be in pretty sad shape and is about 15 yards from the railroad track. I hope you know what you're doing. I think you just paid 20k for the worst lot in Pikeville.

i am from ri, so you can buy nothing for 20k, **** i paid 15k for my car and that only lasted me 7 years. is pikeville at least a nice town?
It's just typical of a lot of the farm towns in eastern NC. It's only 680 people, about 86% white. The businesses include a gas station, dollar store and pizza place. There's little crime, only a couple of burglaries.
Since it is only a couple of miles from Goldsboro, the best thing to do might be to fix the place and use it as a rental. Goldsboro has the Air Force base with many transients.
